Dawn Mucci, a mother of three and certified Aroma Therapist founded The LiceSquad Inc. in May of 2001. She had spent the previous two years as general manager of LiceBusters Canada and continued to work with and contribute to that company until November of 2002 when the company moved to Hawaii.

Dawn was encouraged to start her own company and did just that. With a background in business management and customer service, Dawn began to formulate a business plan to highlight the unique system and tools that she created for the purpose of helping those who struggle with head lice. The focus being on quality head lice removal services, education, customer service, and pesticide-free products.

With the apparent success of the business came a vision to expand. This would create jobs and also provide these much needed services in other communities throughout North America. It was obvious that there was a demand for Mucci’s services and pesticide-free products. Franchising became the best way possible to guarantee that people would have access to quality care, reliable services and accurate information when it came to the issue of head lice. LiceSquad’s products are also now distributed in many fine pharmacies and department stores across Canada.

The LiceSquad Inc. has also received international exposure and recognition for their work with head lice. In 2002, The LiceSquad Inc. won the New Business of the year award for their innovative approach, outstanding marketing concept and customer service. Mucci’s business and marketing system has been compared to the Molly Maid service of house cleaning with one lousy difference; they use combs, visors and tweezers instead of brooms. Mucci is also quoted in Today’s Parent Magazine as being one of Canada’s most prominent nitpickers and in Maclean’s magazine as being Canada’s premier nitpicker.

In just five years, The LiceSquad Inc. have put twenty- five other contracted nitpickers to work in Ontario. They have also sold 9 franchise licenses to those wanting to run their own head lice removal business. Many communities are now benefiting from the innovative vision that was created.

What started as a favour to help another fellow human being through a stressful time has turned into a win- win situation for all. It is a niche market that has continued to expand and that shows no signs of slowing down. Due to a new strain of super lice, awareness of the potential dangers associated with pesticide use, increased press on the topic, word of mouth referrals and an outstanding reputation for quality service. The LiceSquad Inc. is now the leader in head lice removal services, education and product distribution.

Thankfully, lice do not spread as fast as word of mouth does. Yet when lice do come around, and they always will, people now have someone to turn to for effective hands on help, products that work and education.

Currently The LiceSquad Inc. is seeking qualified individuals to provide their unique services to communities outside of Ontario. There are also some Ontario areas that still need servicing. Preferred candidates for these service licenses would generally have a background in business, hairdressing, nursing or childcare. They must also be bondable, have excellent eyesight and previous experience with head lice.

To date The LiceSquad Inc. has been featured on CTV National News, CTV News Net, The Discovery Channel, TV Ontario, Health Matters, City TV, The New VR, A Channel News, CFTO TV, Global News, CBC News World, CBC Disclosure, Canadian Living.com, Balance TV.com, Today’s Parent Magazine, Maclean’s Magazine, The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, The Globe & Mail, The National Post, CFRB New Talk 1010, 680 News Talk, The Child and Parent Guide Book and in City Parent.
